Blue Hill at Stone Barns Wedding in New York

A few months ago I had the wonderful opportunity to assist Brian Wright, half of the wonder duo of The Brothers Wright, for a great wedding in my neck of the woods. Blue Hill at Stone Barns is one of those venues I’ve been wanting to photograph a wedding at for quite some time now so when Brian was searching for an assistant, I jumped at the chance. On top of the chance to shoot at that location, I was excited about working Brian as him and his brother put out some amazing wedding work. I definitely recommend checking out their website. Karyn + Dave. Married at Stotesbury Mansion in Philadelphia.

Anyone who knows Dave and Karyn know they are a riot. Always cracking jokes. Lots of sarcasm along with a hint of a dry sense of humor. Just my kind of people. And after meeting them for lunch, It didn’t take me long to realize they were going to have a great wedding. One that I was honored to be a part of.

I’ll be honest though, I was a bit nervous to perform for these two. Dave is a local wedding photographer so the pressure was on. I love being asked to photograph the weddings of colleagues. Its humbling, fun, and also I challenge. And while I don’t get nervous the day of, those few minutes after you notify them their pictures are ready are a bit nerve-racking. Did I do a good job? Will they like them? I’m sure I’m not the only one that has those thoughts.

In the end, there was nothing to worry about. The wedding was great. The people were great. The day was great. There was a lot of sarcasm. A lot of jokes. And a ton of happiness. Dave and Karen were king and queen for the day, as noted in their special crowns they got to wear. And as the famous saying goes:

It’s good to be king.

Rebecca + Melissa. A NYC Elopement.

Ahhh Elopements. I seriously love them. Well, I guess they should be called “hybrid elopements.” A true elopement would be if a couple just ran off on a whim, got married, and probably didn’t come back. In this case, the ceremony and location were planned … I was hired … and we knew what was going to happen. None-the-less, its still a freakin blast.

Wedding freedom.

And as a photographer, what more could you ask for? Show up on time … hang out … document. Just you and the couple. No rigid schedule. No aunt of the bride asking you to do oddball pictures. Just the 3 of you talking … laughing … hanging out.

And this elopement was sick.

Rebecca + Melissa own One Shot Coffee in the Northern Liberties section of Philly. Its an amazing place. In fact, I was meeting clients there well before I was asked to photograph their elopement. I was super pumped when they asked me to photograph them. So after our meeting we hatched out a loose plan. Wake up early on a random Thursday in NYC. Head to the Highline walk. Get married overlooking the city. Walk around. Eat.They are rad women, and I’m super excited to call them friends. I honestly wish I could have stayed with them all day.

Sound good? I think so. I’ll have more of that in the future please.
